What an audit is actually looking for
A useful audit is not a list of everything wrong with your store — that list is long, boring and unactionable. It is a ranked list of the places your specific storefront loses money, with the size of each leak attached. Ranking is the whole value: without it you get 32 tasks and no way to choose, which is why most audits are read once and filed.
- Where attention lands on a template, and where it dies
- Which step of the cart-to-checkout path loses the most sessions
- What is being clicked that is not clickable
- Which of these is worth the most, so the list has an order
What you can check yourself this afternoon
You do not need software for the first pass. Four of the highest-yield checks are free, and doing them yourself tells you whether you have a small problem or a structural one.
- 1
Buy something from your own store, on your phone
All the way to payment, on mobile data rather than office wifi. Most merchants have never done this on the device 8 in 10 of their visitors use, and the friction is usually obvious within ninety seconds.
- 2
Check where extra costs first appear
If shipping, tax or fees surface for the first time inside checkout, you are asking someone to re-make their decision at the worst possible moment. Show the number earlier.
- 3
Run your two biggest templates through PageSpeed Insights
Your product template and your collection template, on mobile. You are looking for whether you pass Core Web Vitals at all, not for a perfect score.
- 4
Try to check out without creating an account
If you cannot, you have found a known, well-documented abandonment cause and it is a settings change rather than a project.

The four checks above are the manual version of the first pass. The CRO Report runs the same idea across every template continuously, costed and ranked. Read on →
| Standing | One-off | |
|---|---|---|
| What it sees | Your live traffic, on your real templates, continuously | A snapshot, usually from an expert browsing the store |
| When it goes stale | It does not — the next theme change is re-checked | The next theme or app change, which may be next week |
| What you get | A ranked list with the revenue at stake per item | A document, often a very good one |
Where the other one wins: A one-off audit from someone experienced is still the better first move if your store is small or brand new. There is not enough traffic yet for behavioural data to say anything, and an expert's read on your category will beat a thin dataset every time. Come back to continuous measurement when you have visitors to measure.
How DynoWeb does it
Before you install
Is this really free?
Installing the app and getting the first audit costs nothing. Ongoing use is covered by our plans — see pricing for what each includes.
Do I have to talk to sales?
No. Install from the Shopify App Store and it runs. There is no call to book and no demo gate.
What if the audit finds nothing significant?
Then that is the finding, and it is worth knowing. A storefront with no major on-site leak usually means the constraint is elsewhere — traffic quality, pricing or merchandising — and a CRO tool is not where to spend next.
